In the Fall of 2017, I presented at the Materials Research Society Fall Meeting and Exhibit in Boston, MA. (Poster to be uploaded soon).

In the Summer of 2017, I presented at the 2017 Annual International Conference on Thermoelectrics in Pasadena, California, USA. (Poster to be uploaded soon).

In the Spring of 2017, I attended The Minerals, Metals, and Materials (TMS) 146th International Meeting in San Diego, California, USA. At this conference, I presented a poster on the “Rapid Synthesis of Nickel and Zinc Co-Doped Tetrahedrite Thermoelectrics by Reactive Spark Plasma Sintering and Mechanical Alloying.” Check out my poster here.

In the Summer of 2017, I presented at the Hope College Schaap Chemistry Symposium in Holland, MI. (Poster to be uploaded soon).

In the Spring of 2017, I presented at Michigan State University’s 2017 Engineering Graduate research Symposium and the Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Department’s 2017 CHEMS Forum. At these conferences, I presented posters on “Thermoelectric Performance of Tetrahedrite Synthesized by a Modified Polyol Process.” Check out my poster here.

In the the Spring of 2016, I also presented at Michigan State University’s 2016 Engineering Graduate research Symposium and the Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Department’s 2016 CHEMS Forum. At these conferences, I presented preliminary results of the posters shown above.

Morelli Research Group

The Morelli research group at TMS!

I am a member of the Morelli research team at Michigan State University. Check out our research group page. We study solid-state systems of metals, semiconductors, and ceramics for various thermal, electrical, or magnetic materials problems. Our group recently has focused on thermoelectrics, phase-change materials, and materials synthesis.

Specifically, I research earth-abundant, non-toxic thermoelectric materials as an alternative to the commonly used lead telluride materials, which contain toxic lead and low-abundance tellurium. I have been exploring alternative synthesis methods to make tetrahedrite thermoelectrics, and I am utilizing these novel syntheses to explore various dopants in the material.

I have collaborations with the Madan group at university of Maryland Baltimore County, the Lai group at MSU, the Zevalkink group at MSU, and the Anderson group at Hope College.

12/20/2017 – Congratulations to our collaborators in the Lai group for their recent publication in Computational Materials Science!

11/28/2017 – I presented my work on tetrahedrite thermoelectrics at the Materials Research Society (MRS) Fall Meeting and Exhibit in Boston, MA.

8/1/2017 – I presented my work on tetrahedrite thermoelectrics at the 36th International Conference on Thermoelectrics in Pasadena, CA.

7/21/2017 – I am concluding my work at hope College and presented my research at the Hope College Schaap Chemistry Symposium.

6/26/2017 – I have begun work as a visiting graduate researcher and undergraduate mentor at Hope College.

5/12/2017 – I presented my research at the MSU 2017 CHEMS Forum in the form of a poster presentation.

3/30/2017 – I presented my research at the MSU 2017 Engineering Graduate Research Symposium.

3/22/2017 – My paper on rapid synthesis of tetrahedrite thermoelectrics by reactive spark plasma sintering was accepted in the Journal of Alloys and Compounds.

3/3/2017 – I presented my research at the TMS International Conference in February 2017 and was awarded 2nd place in the poster competition for the Alloys and Compounds for Thermoelectric and Solar Cell Applications section.

2/6/2017 – Our paper on synthesis of nanostructured tetrahedrite thermoelectrics by a modified polyol method was puclished in the Journal of Materials Chemistry C. Thank you and congratulations to all of our collaborators at Hope College and Michigan State University!

12/9/2016 – I passed my comprehensive exam in the Materials Science and Engineering department at Michigan State University.

4/24/2015 – I passed my Qualifying Exam in the Materials Science and Engineering department at Michigan State University.
